Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the Bud Light Report!

It has been almost four months to the day! Oh you remember August 25, 2009 was the night that Your Bud Light team stunned Macke Motors in the playoffs 48 to 24 to claim back to back Carroll Country Club Supper League Championships. 2008 Bud Light MVP and self proclaimed world's best putter Mike Schulz beat Captain Carpet Randy Bierl 11 to 7, long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz shot a stellar round of 32 to beat Car Wash Todd Pettitt 11 to 7, 2009 Bud Light MVP Steve Sinnard shot a two under par 35 and waxed Flying Bob Raue 13 to 5 and your Captain beat Grandpa Uncle Bruce 13 to 5. As the curtain closed on the 2009 supper league season your Bud Light team was at the top of the heap once again! It has been a great year and life is good on top!

Seems so long ago as the ice and snow drifts into the Carroll area! It is Christmas time in the city! I hope all of you take time to spend with family and friends. It is at this time of the year that I stop and think how fortunate I really am! There are so many things to be thankful for including my family, my friends, everyone at Mid Iowa, my meals on wheels angels who brighten my day each and every Monday, all of my Chamber of Commerce colleagues, all of the subscribers of this report and the list goes on and on! Merry Christmas to all of you! Merry Christmas to Kirk Ferentz and the great Iowa Hawkeyes!

Presented by Subway!

It all started on a cool Iowa morning as we were heading West from Carroll on U.S. Highway 30. It was 5 AM and the four of us were answering a call from Subway team sponsor - Subway Mike Gute to fly to the Subway compound in Las Crues, New Mexico to discuss strategy that could help his Subway team compete in the Carroll Country Club Men's Supper League. 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz, 2009 Bud Light MVP Steve Sinnard, Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz and Your Bud Light team captain Mike Franey arrived at the El Paso Airport and proceeded the five minutes to the Butterfield Trail Golf Club to start our journey. At the Butterfield Trail Golf Club we met Mark "Crazy" O'Leary, Tator Tot Tim Gute, Subway Mike and El Paso Texas' Subway Dave "Chopper" Gute. Eighteen holes ensued on the fairways and greens of the Butterfield Trail Golf Club followed by a delicious brisket dinner at the home of Dave and Tina Gute. Our forty mile drive to the Subway compound seem longer as us early morning travelers were fading fast.

A good night sleep was just what the doctor ordered and in the morning we awoke to the sun rising over the Somona Ranch Golf Course - which would become our home for the next four days. As the opening round of the The 2009 Las Cruces International Players Annual National Open Invitational Tournament of Champions Masters Tour Championship Charity Classic
Memorial Legends Grand Slam Event of the Year Final Shoot Out in the Desert
at Sonoma Ranch World Cup Challenge presented by Subway approached all the golfers started one of several daily traditions.....breakfast buritos at the Sunset Grill.

Lots can happen in four days! We met great people like Head Golf Professional Justin Dahrling and all of his staff who treated us great, Rios and Taylor, Dede(our fine beer cart driver), B.T., Eric, Simon and a little fella that we simply called "Z". Z provided the four members of Your Bud Light team a place to stay and the humor that would break most people's ribs. Z also gave our friend Crazy a new nickname " el tigre loco" -meaning one crazy tiger. We played four days of golf at the beautiful Sonoma Ranch Golf Course and only retired to the patio at the Sunset Grill(another daily tradition) when Mother Nature turned out the lights. The Sunset Grill was this little establishment with a small kitchen where the food was fit for kings(or in this case the back to back champions of the CCC Supper League)! Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz had the incredible Beef Wellington back to back nights and then followed it up with his favorite cheese burger on Saturday night. Others enjoyed pasta, steak and tuna all that were recommended by our new friends.

Oh I just brought it up.....the only blemish of the whole trip......a four hour block of time on Saturday's midday! As we gathered in Subway Mike's living room thoughts of a Big Ten title and a National Championship in the Rose Bowl danced in our heads. As Ricky Stanzi lay motionless in the North end zone of Kinnick Stadium you could have heard a pin drop in that Las Crues, New Mexico living room. The leader of our black and gold was down. That game did not turn out like we wanted but we had to carry on because we had a tee time at Sonoma Ranch. The black and gold might have lost on the field that day but I wore my black and gold shirt into battle. Subway Mike and myself were facing off against against long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz and 2009 Bud Light MVP Steve Sinnard. It was a rematch of day two when Subway Mike and I carved up the so called "Dream Team" like a twenty pound butterball turkey at Thanksgiving. This day would be considered a draw and left all that money that we collect on day two in our pockets. The "Dream Team" labeled Saturday as moving day but they forgot to call Car Wash Todd to line up the moving trucks. The sweet taste of victory!

Thank you Subway Mike! Thanks to Dave and Tina Gute, everyone at the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course, all the nice people that we met and our main man Z!

Fairways and greens to all!

Oh by the way more discussion is needed and no decisions were made concerning the Subway golf team!

IN KIRK WE TRUST!

My mother in law Caryl Dukes sent me an email the other day because she worried that she did not receive my blog any longer. Never fear MeMa you are still a subscriber and you are going to love this post!
On a drizzly Iowa October night as a few of us left the wedding reception at the Arcadia American Legion to gather around the bar at the Front Street Station in down town Arcadia to watch our beloved Black and Gold mount a last second drive it soon became apparent that we were watching history in the making! As Marvin McNutt caught the pass from Ricky Stanzi the bar erupted and started to celebrate the Hawkeye's 8th victory of the season. I have to admit that I was a little worried about the outcome but never gave up the hope. In the words of the greatest voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes....I Love it....I Love it....I Love it!

The Official University of YOUR Back to Back Supper league Championship Bud Light team is in uncharted territories. A #4 BCS ranking was released on Sunday evening! The three teams above us are not too bad either.....Florida, Alabama and Texas! I received several text messages shortly after the game and many of them just contained one simple but powerful word....WOW! It's great to be a Hawkeye! In the famous words of Carroll Cycle Center's team Captain Terry Ruchti "It's our(he ussually says "your" but it fits better with "our".) time enjoy the ride!

Bud One Jim Auen's Iowa State Cyclones stole a victory away from long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz's turnover prone Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday! Congratulations to the Cyclones.

In other news worthy items...........
  • Happy birthday wishes this past Sunday to my father-in-law Phil Dukes!
  • Congratulations to Bud One Jim Auen on his recent marriage. What a great event! This creates a split household as Deb is a Big Red fan. Well at least one of them were happy on Saturday.

Have a great week!

Craig Mertz wins 2009 Bill Franey Open and Wyatt Haukap cards hole in one!

Craig Mertz of Carroll shot a 27 hole total of two under par 106 to win the 4th Annual Bill Franey Open at the Raccoon Valley Golf Course in Jefferson on Sunday by one stroke over Scott Quandt of Mt. Carmel. Mertz also won the inaugural Bill Franey Open in 2006. Defending champion Wade Pettitt and 2007 champion Mike Eckerman were not in the field this year.
The tournament named after Bill Franey, father of Mike Franey of Carroll who passed away in May of 2006 attracted 24 Carroll golfers in the 56 player field. The tournament was formerly known as the Al Hoy Memorial where Bill Franey served as the tournament director for 25 years. In 2006 the Board of Directors of the golf course renamed the tournament the Bill Franey Open. Proceeds from the tournament support a scholarship given annually to a student training to be an electric lineman at Northwest Community College in Sheldon. Franey was a lineman for the Midland Power Coop in Jefferson for 31 years and served as line superintendent for another 10 years.
All golfers played 18 holes then the low 16 players qualified for a final championship nine. Adam Pick won the final nine medalist honors with a 2 under par 34.
Other Carroll golfers in the championship flight included Adam Pick 110, Pat “Spanky” Vollstedt 110, Kevin Vollstedt, formerly from Manning 114, Joe Pick 115, Lonny Lehrkamp 115, Andy Bernholtz 115, Steve “Cuda” Quandt 116 and Wyatt Haukap with a 117. Haukap recorded a hole in one on hole #5.
Terry Ruchti was second in the first flight with a 79. Others in the first flight were Steve Sinnard 81, Paul Tigges 81, Tom Duff 82, former Carroll resident John Dukes 83, Tom Dentlinger 84 and Andy Reiman 84. Dave Nelson was 4th in the second flight with an 87. Other scores in the 2nd flight were Bruce Pettitt 87, Jay Drees 89, Joe Hinners 89 and Mike Franey 90. Mike McDermott won the third flight with a 92 and Steve “Hans” Auen was second with a 92. Others in the 3rd flight were former Carroll resident Mark Cuddy 93, Jason Scranton 101 and Tom Snyder 110.

A big thanks to the Carroll girls for coming over and supporting all the golfers!

Back to Back Carroll Country Club Supper League Champions!

Your Bud Light team entered the championship match against Macke Motors with a since of determination knowing that with a good performance they would be rewarded a second straight Carroll Country Club Supper League Championship. It was evident that the match had meaning when a cart carrying Macke Motors team sponsor Gus Macke and the Supper league veteran Ken Ebner pulled up to the first tee as the clock struck 5:30. Your entire Bud Light team was informed that Macke Motors had won a Supper league championship every decade since the 60's. Welllllll this publisher is pleased to annouce that they will have to wait another year as 2009 is the year of Your Bud Light team.

The matches were set a week ago, the trash talking was over and there we stood ready to do battle. The first foursome would be 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz and your publisher Mike Franey against Captain Carpet Randy Bierl and Uncle Grandpa Bruce Pettitt. The night started slow for the 2008 MVP as he lost the first three holes to Bierl. Schulz would rebound with the help of a couple 12 ounces of swing oil provided by our great sponsor. In the end Schulz beat Bierl 11 to 7. Captain Mike Franey capitalized on several Uncle Grandpa Bruce's mistakes and topped Pettitt 13 to 7.

News of what was going on in the second match came via the Macke - Ebner Express. With the club championship success over the weekend by Steve Sinnard and long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz your Captain voiced his concerns on Sunday about preventing "tournament hangover" syndrome in the championship match. The most beautiful words to flow into your Captain's ears were heard as the two pulled their E-Z-GO golf cart up to the East side of the #9 green! "No Tournament Hangover in this cart" they proclaim. The duo started fast as a sprinkling of birdies and an eagle appeared on the card. Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz shot an stellar 5 under par 32 while Car Wash Todd Pettitt shot a 1 under par 36. A match that saw Pettit challenge Mertz down the stretch ended with a 11 to 7 Mertz win! Steve Sinnard eagled #2 on his way to a 2 under par 35 and took the wings away from Flying Bob Raue. Raue was limping a little after an over the weekend water sking mishap. One has to wonder how big the risk was to go sking before a historical Supper match. Rumors surfaced last evening about the possibility of Raue joining the Macke Motors senior league team!

Overall it was just what Super Doc McCoy would have persribed, a little swing oil for the 2008 MVP, great performances from Sinnard and Mertz and your publisher taking advantage of some mistakes. A 48 to 24 win over the Tiger Woods division champion put smiles on all the faces of Bud Light nation.

I would like to thank our fine team sponsor Jim, Troy, and Steve Auen of The Ike Auen Distributing Company, all of the loyal supporters of this report and the Carroll Country Club for making 2009 a Championship year to remember!

Championship Tuesday!

Bud Light vs. Macke Motors

A season that started on April 28th comes to an end tonight with a show down for the ages. Your Bud Light team will take on Macke Motors.

Making the call to the 1st tee for your Zach Johnson division will be long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz who finished second in this weekends Carroll Country Club tourney, Steve Sinnard who finished fourth in the club tourney, 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz and your Captain Mike Franey. Bud Two Troy Auen and Bud Three Steve "Hans" Auen are off for championship night.
Reports coming out of the car wash on U.S. Highway 30 have placed the Motors line up as Car Wash Todd Pettitt, Uncle Grandpa Bruce Pettitt, Flying Bob Raue and Captain Randy Bierl.
Supper league historians have given Your Bud Light team a slight edge in the match. Your Bud Light team is averaging 38.80 points per week and Macke Motors is averaging 38.13. It is sure to be a Classic Supper League Championship match.

Your Bud Light team wins the Zach Johnson division and Macke Motors wins the Tiger Woods division!

The stage is officially set for next week's championship match between your Bud Light team and Macke Motors. Tuesday August 25th will be the day that your Bud Light attempts to do something that has not been accomplished in the history of the Carroll Country Club.....back to back Supper league championships! The media hype has already started with requests from major networks like ESPN, Fox Sports and Carroll Broadcasting. Aviation expert Flying Bob Raue has been put on retainer by your publisher to monitor the air space above the Carroll Country Club for next Tuesday's event. Papa Joe Pick has been appointed as the security advisor along with his side kick the junk yard dog! This night will certainly be the first big challenge for new golf professional and general manager Nick Schon. Head Bar keeper Jason Scranton will be in charge of the hospitality tents and Brenda Stickrod will have a well stocked beer cart.

Macke Motors are certainly riding into the championship match with a lot of momentum as they arose out of a week 17 dead heat with seven others to claim the divisional title. Car Wash Todd Pettitt was the week 17 MVP for the motors beating Tony Feldman 13 to 5. Flying Bob Raue collected 11 points and Grandpa Uncle Bruce and Hyvee Store director Joel Flug each earned 10 points in the victory. Randy Bierl was riding the week 17 bench and spending the night with wife Jane on her birthday but has promised to play in the championship match if requested. Team sponsor Gus Macke was unavailable for comment this morning and one has to wonder if he will make his 2009 debut in the championship match.

Leaking oil like a Jeff Gordon blown engine your Bud Light team milked their 19 point lead and scored a season low 27 points against a hot Kerps team. The Carroll Cycle Center posed a threat last night only to come up a slim 5 points short. The ole postman Gary Stark walked over your Captain beating him on the last hole, a well handicapped Ken Ebner took care of Steve Sinnard and Steve "Hans" Auen ran into a Rick Grote buzz saw. The only winner was Mike Schulz who took care of Mike Loehr. Steve Sinnard has taken over the Bud Light MVP lead from Steve Auen with Captain Mike Franey in a close third.

Other news worthy items............
  • Happy birthday wishes go out to the Judge Eric Neu and Jane Bierl
  • Club Championship weekend with a calcutta auction on Friday at 7!
  • Congratulations to Carroll Country Club President Randy Hockom for his closest to the pin on 17 and longest putt on 18.
  • Congrats to Kyle Atkinson for low gross and Jay Drees and Wade Wilkie for low net.

Look for special coverage of the championship match this week. That is a wrap for week 17 with your Bud Light team winning a second straight league divisional title. Have a great week!

Final week before playoffs....Duff and Comito into Cleveland Cup finals!

This is what we all have been waiting for! It’s week 17 where your Bud Light team puts the exclamation point on a divisional championship. For the final night of the regular season your Bud Light team will take on Subway Mike’s Kerps squad and in championship form will tee off the #1 tee of the Carroll Country Club. Making the call to the tee tonight will be 2008 MVP Mike Schulz, 2009 MVP front runner Steve “Hans” Auen, Steve Sinnard and Captain Mike Franey.

Over in the Tiger Woods division is where the real battle is brewing! Stiffsticks are the current leader by two over Macke Motors. The sticks play Bud One Jim Auen’s La-z-boys and the motors play Byron’s Boyz. Subway and Carroll Eye Clinic are tied for third just 1 point behind Macke Motors and 3 points behind the Stiffsticks. The soggy subs play Chico Kanne’s oil jobbers of Community Oil Company and the Carroll Eye Clinic play Miller Lite. Only 4 points out of the lead is Utilicom who play Commercial Savings Bank. The match of the night to watch will be the Carroll Country Club who are only 7 points out of the lead and they tee it up against Scott Kanne’s Broadband Bandits. A big night from the clubbers could vault them right into a championship. Seven out of the 12 teams in the Tiger Woods division are only 10 points out of the lead. This publisher will have extended coverage along with post match reactions from all of the matches.

A big week 16 Bud Light Victory.......Hans Auen MVP.....Goodbye Uncle Buck!

As the results of week 16 were being posted I stood on the South side of the St. Lawrence Parish watching a casket being pushed down the sidewalk to a car that waited. In that casket was my wife's uncle, Chuck Gifford or as I got to know him as...Uncle Buck! It was ironic when we first met as he was a well seasoned, respected and legendary State Farm Insurance agent and I was a young inexperienced independent insurance agent attending a family function with his niece Lynda. I have the fondest memories of Chuck! His laugh, his smile but most of all the way that he always treated me like someone that he knew all of his life.

Over the events of the past week it was apparent that he had treated a lot of people that way. The visitation lines extended from the front door of the St. Lawrence Church down the stairs and then headed South towards the St Lawrence school. Hundreds of people came to pay their respects to a guy who served his country, loved his family and protected the future of thousands with his State Farm services. As I followed the casket up the side walk from the St. Lawrence parking lot on Wednesday morning I felt my eyes well up! You see that sidewalk was lined on both sides with Chuck's State Farm family. This publisher will remember that walk forever! As the events of the day winded down I still could not quite put my hands around the fact that Chuck was gone! His final resting place is just right for him under a tree and just North of some beautiful flowers on a plot selected perfectly for him. He is gone but he will never be forgotten. Thanks for the memories Uncle Buck!

Golf just didn't seem so important this week but it went on with your Bud Light team beating Utilicom 41 to 31 to remain on the top of the Zach Johnson division heading into last week of play. Steve "Hans" Auen extend his MVP lead and was your week 16 MVP. Bud two Troy Auen and long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz were both winners with even par 34's. Steve Sinnard added valuable points and ended up in a tie. The lead is 19 as your Bud Light team looks for another Supper League Championship. That is all that I have for week 16!

Week 15 - Cycles win big.....a Bud Light loss....Hans Auen MVP and Stiffsticks on top!

On a night that I stepped on the tee against the 2000 3A High School State Champion there were big movers in both division of the Carroll Country Club Supper's league.

Your Bud Light team had only one winner in week 15 as Steve "Hans" Auen beat Tyler Grundmeier 11 to 7. Auen leads the 2009 Bud Light MVP race by .11 points over Steve Sinnard. Sinnard scrapped it out last night to force a tie with Joel Greteman. 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz lost to Head Bar Keeper Jason Scranton 11 to 7 and Captain Mike Franey lost on the last hole to Carroll Country Club General Manager and Head Golf Professional Nate Pettitt. With all that your Bud Light team suffered its first loss in weeks 37 to 35 to the Carroll Country Club. The good news is Stiffsticks took care of Community Oil Company 48 to 24 so your Bud Light team's lead is 19 points over arch rival Carroll Cycle Center.

The Cycles were victorious with the help of Bud Two Troy Auen who was crushed by J.B. Greenwell 16 to 2. With there big win over the Sharp Funeral Home the Cycles jumped Community Oil Company and Walsh Motors to climb into second just 19 points back of your Bud Light team. Jay Drees leads the MVP race for the Cycles. Lots of awards for the Cycles in week 15. Tony Bluml and Terry Ruchti were low net with a 29. Captain TR subbed for Macke Motors and defeated Rick Kasperbauer. The Cycles were low net team, Captain TR was closest to the pin on 17 and Bluml had the longest putt on 18.

In the heated race over in the Tiger Woods division week 14 leader Macke Motors were nipped by Bud One and the La-z-boys causing the motors to fall into 4th place due to the fact the Carroll Eye Clinic dilated the eyes of Scott Kanne's Broadband Bandits scoring a 51 to 21 victory. The big win moved the eye clinic into second place just 2 points behind the Stiffsticks. Utilicom continued their winning ways beating Walsh Motors 44 to 28 moving them into third place just 4 points behind Stiffsticks. Next up for Utilicom is a match next Tuesday against your Bud Light team. The moldy subs posted a fourth win in a row beating Byron's Boyz 38 to 34. Papa Joe Pick was absent as he was in Des Moines with bride Elise celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. The Subs are only 11 points out of first place and still have a legitimate shot at the title.

Overall in the cross over matches of week 15 the Tiger Woods had the upper hand winning all but three matches over the Zach Johnson division.

Another Bud Light victory, Nelson defends at Papa Joe Classic and $370 raised for Meals on Wheels!

It has been awhile since I have sat down at my keyboard to tell you what has been going on in the wonderful world of Carroll area golf. Here I go............

Week 14 recap......Last Tuesday on the fairways and greens of the Carroll Country Club your Bud Light team came out victorious over Volquartsen Customs 42 to 30 to remain at the top of the Zach Johnson division. Leading the way was week 14 MVP Mike Schulz who topped Wyatt Haukap 13 to 5. Haukap and long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz both showed signs of "tournament hangover" from competing in the Carroll City Championship. Mertz finished 2nd and Haukap qualified for the championship round. Mertz was beaten by John Nepple 10 to 8 and was the only loss for your Bud Light team! Mertz is officially benched and is also out of state taking a family vacation to the Wisconsin Dells.

Steve "Hans' Auen was a winner over team sponsor Scott "Scooter" Volquartsen 10 to 8 and Captain Mike Franey took care of John Deere Nate Puck 11 to 7. With all of that said your Bud Light team extends their lead to 15 points.

A big Bud Light thank you goes out to the funeral directors of Sharp Funeral Home for stopping the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company 39 to 33. In a cross over match the motors of Macke Motors loss Carroll Cycle Center 40 to 32 to stay on top of the Tiger Woods division but only 1 point over Captain Frank Comito's Stiffsticks. The big winner of week 15 was Utilicom who pummeled Miller Lite 50 to 22 to move into striking distance just 1 point out of the lead in the Tiger Woods division.

Papa Joe Classic! On Wednesday and Thursday 20 area golfers teed off to start the 2009 edition of the Papa Joe Okoboji Classic at the Brooks National Golf Course just off Lake Okoboji in NW Iowa. It was a new year, a new trophy, new memories were created and when all the dust settled the same old winner standing! Digger Dave Nelson captured his 2nd in a row Papa Joe Classic Championship. The defending champion chugged a cold Bud Light from the Okoboji cup and cheered all of the spectators who were in attendance on the deck just outside of Bud's Pub. On the way home long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz told me that no one ever remembers who got second or was the bridesmaid but I do as it was me! That's right Digger Dave beat your Captain by just 1 stroke. I am very happy though and since I have control of the keyboard let me tell you about! A second place finish in the Papa Joe Okoboji Classic was a personal best for me, Bud Two and I beat Steve Sinnard and long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz on Wednesday something that we had not done for two years. On Thursday long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz and I beat the Farmer(Papa Joe) and the Junk Yard Dog on the last hole! Oh yes sweet justice! A blind 200 yard shot to 1 foot put the frosting on 2009 Papa Joe Classic that I will soon not forget! Life is good!

A big thank you to all who participated in this year's Classic and I look forward to next year in the middle of July.

Par Tee 12 - On Friday Carroll Broadcasting held their 12th Par Tee Golf Classic. Your publisher had the honor of sponsoring hole #10. My ad rep Kris Boeckman along with my wife decided that it would be great to have a little fun on the hole and raise some money for a local charity so that is what we did. A board was made and Kris painted it with four cutoffs so golfers could stand behind and have their picture taken. All golfers were asked to make a small donation that would be donated to one of my favorite charities Meals on Wheels! I would like to thank all of the golfers who made donations to Meals on Wheels and $370 was raised to insure that area seniors receive the meals that they deserve. A big thank you to Carroll Broadcasting as well for a great day that was enjoyed by all!

Week 15 preview - Your Bud Light team tees off week 15 with its 15 point lead against the Carroll Country Club. The Club team usually features a couple of members of the Pettitt dynasty and head bar keeper Jason Scranton. Second Place Community Oil Company takes on the Stiffsticks who is a battle for first in the Zach Johnson division with Macke Motors and Utilicom. Macke Motors play Bud One and the La-z-boys while Utilicom take on Walsh Motors. The Carroll Cycle Center team look to move up the ranks against the Sharp Funeral Home team. Your Bud Light line up will be decided later today after team analysis is completed.

Happy anniversary wishes go out to Papa Joe and Elise Pick as they celebrate 35 years yesterday!

In Tom Watson fashion playing in the final group of the Carroll City Tourney with golfers 30 years his younger long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz scrapped it around in a one over par for 45 holes to claim the runner up poistion. Mike "Jewels" Eckerman finished one shot back of Mertz for third place honors.

With his success over the weekend the long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz will lead your Bud Light team to battle tonight against the Scooter's guns of Volquartsen Custom. Also making the call to the 11th tee will be 2009 MVP front runner Steve "Hans" Auen, 2008 MVP Mike Schulz and your Captain Mike Franey. 2009 MVP runner up Steve Sinnard is vacationing at Lake Okoboji with his family including wife Keeley "Giant Killer" Sinnard. In Cleveland Cup action Keeley beat both Kirby Pettitt and 2009 City Tournmament winner Aaron Ahrendsen before losing to Hy-Vee produce manager Tom "Duffer" Duff. That is a pretty good feat for one summer. Bud Two Troy Auen will be riding the Week 14 pine after his loss last week to Carroll Cycle Center team captain Terry Ruchti. Your Bud Light team will look to widened their six point lead over the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company. Head oil jobber Chico Kanne was spotted yesterday at the range with a large bucket of balls working on his game. The oil jobbers will take aim at local funeral director Kyle Atkinson's Sharp Funeral Home team.

After their loss to your Bud Light team the cycles look to rebound by facing off with one of the hottest teams in the Tiger Woods division, Macke Motors. Who will make the call to the tee for the motors? The featured pairing of the night will be Scott Kanne's Broadband Bandits squaring off against Kasperbauer Cleaners. Ron Juergen's lawn boys go head to head with Byron's Boyz and Captain Comito's Stiffsticks take on the bankers of Carroll County State Bank. The big moving Subway team team take on Larry's Automotive without the services of Papa Joe Pick

Papa Joe Pick is on the banks of West Lake Okoboji preparing for the start of the 2009 Papa Joe Okoboji Classic tomorrow. Many report subscribers will be taking part in this tournament so look for this publisher to keep you informed with all of the results. Digger Dave Nelson is the defending champion and reportedly been playing quite well of late. We will have to wait until around 4 on Thursday to see who will drink their ice cold Bud Light from the Cup and etch their name in the Papa Joe Okoboji Classic history books.

The finals in the Cleveland Cup are just around the corner. Tom "Duffer" Duff waits the winner of the match between Carroll Country Club President Randy Hockom and your Captain Mike Franey. Todd Kanne took care of Jacque Masching last Friday and will now face Frank Comito. All of the five remaining golfers are subscribers to this report! Good to all. Tickets will go on sale soon for that Hockom and Franey title fight.

Birthday wishes from this report go out today to "Big T" Tom "Slider" Snyder.

That is a wrap for the week 14 preview show. Your Bud Light team looks to extend the lead over the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company. Look for tomorrow's report from the banks of West Lake Okoboji.

A BIG Bud Light Victory.........Sinnard Week 13 MVP......New leader in the Tiger Woods division!

The skies over the Carroll Country Club opened up last night just in time for the golf gods to witness your Bud Light team defeating arch rival Carroll Cycle Center. Your Bud Light team was led by 2009 MVP contender Steve Sinnard. Sinnard defeated Tony Bluml 12 to 6 and has crawled into virtually a dead heat with 2009 MVP front runner Steve "Hans" Auen for this years individual honors. Auen was rested last night by Captain Mike Franey from action but was seen completing a four mile walk with wife Krissi. It is good to see that the Bud Light team conditioning program is in full swing. Riding along with Sinnard was 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz who took care of Joe Hinners 11 to 7. Captain Mike Franey revenged a 2008 loss to Dr. J.B. Greenwell by beating him 11 to 7. The only blemish on your Bud Light team card was in the match that pitted sponsor against sponsor. Bud Two and team sponsor Troy Auen lost a close one to Carroll Cycle Center team sponsor and captain Terry Ruchti 10 to 8. Your Captain sent long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz to play for Sharp Funeral Home where he took care of 2008 Papa Joe Okoboji Classic winner Digger Dave Nelson 11 to 7.

Another solid performance from your Bud Light team last night as they remain perched at the top of the Zach Johnson division. The lead was reduced last night by one point to 6 as the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company handed Byron's Boyz a 43 to 29 loss. Dick Muhlbauer led the team beating Brian Widdel 14 to 4. Todd Kanne beat Leon Muhlbauer 12 to 6 and Dierk Halverson beat Tony Feldman 11 to 7. The only loss for the team was from the head oil jobber Chico Kanne who fell to Bob Giguere. As of this moment your publisher will not be accepting any more coffee or donuts from Mac's Corner Cafe to insure that no foreign substances interfere with the decision making process that is needed to win a Zach Johnson division title. Java Ridge coffee from Kum and Go will be the official coffee of your publisher for the remainder of the year.

So the leader board in the Zach Johnson division has Your Bud Light team with 437 points followed by Community Oil Company with 431, Walsh Motors with 417 and the Carroll Cycle Center and Commercial Savings Bank with 410.

This publisher was ambushed as he entered the clubhouse last night by members of several teams in the Tiger Woods division wanting to make sure that their results received mention in today's report as they scored big victories. Papa Joe Pick was patiently waiting for your publisher perched on the bar stools on the North side of the bar to report that his Subway team dismantled Kasperbauer Cleaners 55 to 17. This is the third consecutive win for the soggy subs in as many weeks and has moved them from 10th place in week 11 to 4th in week 13! Also waiting for your publisher was Uncle Grandpa Bruce Pettitt and Captain Carpet Randy Bierl to tell me all about Macke Motors big win 53 to 19 over the gunners of Volquartsen Customs. The Motors leap frogged from 4th to 1st in the Tiger Woods division with the help of Uncle Grandpa Bruce's nephews, Nate and Kirby's, throttling of league leading Stiffsticks 45 to 27. Ron Juergen's lawn boys just got by Subway Mike Gute's Kerp's squad 37 to 35.

As the top analyst of Supper league action I am sorry to burst your bubbles BUT all of these large moves were made against teams with only three players. I understand that it is not your fault but it is like playing baseball without a bat, bowling with a square ball or polo without a horse! What is fair about Mike Nelson playing both Nate and Kirby Pettitt at the same time and watching them shoot three under each. It sure has made for some interesting conversation and made quite a heated race for the Tiger Woods division title. This report will put an asterisk on the Week 13 results in the Tiger Woods division.

Thanks Tom Watson!.......the show down is here......after the recount the lead is 7!

On Sunday afternoon I sat on the edge of my recliner hoping to see a ten foot putt fall into the center of the cup on the 72nd hole of the 2009 edition of the British Open and witness one of the greatest golf stories of all time. Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz's favorite golfer was playing like a Tom Watson of old. He silenced the golf world as all golf fans held their breath waiting for that putt to go in........it did not go in! Instead it was a life and career changing experience for Stewart Cink. It wasn't like I was cheering against Cink I was cheering for golf's true gentleman who was trying to put an exclamation point on a career that already had one! Four days of watching golf, the first three from below peaks 7 and 8 in Breckenridge Colorado and the final in my La-z-boy on Suncrest Road in Carroll, Iowa. A British Open that I will not soon forget thanks to a 59 year old from Kansas City, Missouri who was trying to shock the golf world reserved for his youngers! Thanks Tom Watson!

The time has come! What Mother Nature postponed on June 23rd will not be put off any longer. A rivalry that has simmered for years between Your league leading Bud Light team and the 3rd place Carroll Cycle Center team will take center stage tonight on the fairways and greens of the front nine of the Carroll Country Club! In a recount last Wednesday morning Bud Two Troy Auen brought it to your Captain's attention that there had been a mistake in scoring week 12. After several emails and an internal audit it was confirmed your Bud Light team deserved two more points and so it was a seven point lead instead of five.

Making the call to the tee tonight for the Cycles will be Captain Terry Ruchti, Dr. J.B. Greenwell, Joe Hinners, and D.A. Tony Bluml. Carroll Cycle Center's MVP front runner Jay Drees is vacationing in Boston this week and will not be in the line up! And now your starting line up for YOUR Bud Light team! Captain Mike Franey will lead the team to the tee along with Bud Two Troy Auen, 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz and Steve Sinnard who is in 2nd place in the 2009 Bud Light MVP race. Your Captain has decided to rest 2009 MVP front runner Steve "Hans" Auen to preserve him for the rest of the season. Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz is riding the pine for Week 13. Good luck to all and hold your beers high toasting a big Bud Light victory!

In other Zach Johnson division action the 2nd place oil jobbers of Community Oil Company take on Byron's Boyz. The oil jobbers are just seven points back of your Bud Light team and are ready to pounce into the lead. Supper league's oldest running team and former champions the
La-z-boys look to lower their interest rate against the bankers from Commercial Savings Bank and Walsh Motors are eyeing a Supper league crown take on the Broadband Bandits. Captain Scott Kanne will not be on the roster as he takes part in Ragbrai!

Over in the "I can't believe a 59 year old almost won the Bristish Open and I missed the cut" Tiger Woods division the Stiffsticks try to continue their winning ways against the Carroll Country Club. Macke Motors play the riffles of Volquartsen Customs and Subway's team sponsor Mike Gute's Kerps squad plays Ron Juergens lawn boys. The lawn boys are still recovering from a lonely Week 12 loss. Papa Joe Pick's Subway team looks to make it three wins in a row and avoid being taken to the cleaners. They play the youngsters of Kasperbauer Cleaners.

Week 12 wrap up from the Rocky Mountains!

Your Bud Light team entered Week 12 with only a slim three shot lead over the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company and exit Week 12 with a 5 point lead heading into the highly anticipated show down with the Carroll Cycle Center! Your Bud Light team was led to battle by interim Captain Steve "Hans" Auen who took dead aim at The Judge Eric Neu beating him 8 to 1. Auen earns the Week 12 Bud Light MVP award. Auen's cart partner Steve Sinnard took care of John Wagner 7 to 2! A nice team win for Sinnard and Auen.

Well that is the good news for your Bud Light team. Over in the injured reserve cart of Bud Two Troy Auen and long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz the news was not as encouraging as the Bierl Boys, Todd and Colby came to play. Todd Bierl fired a 37 at the long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer beating him 11 to 7. Bierl was awarded low gross honors with his net 29. Bierl is a golfer with oodles of talent who has not played much golf over the past two years and if he starts playing more he will be a force to be reckoned with. Colby Bierl followed in his father's footsteps topping Bud Two Troy Auen 13 to 5. Both Auen and Mertz played well only to be beaten by good golf from the Bierl's.

Overall a good night from your Bud Light team beating the Bandit's 43 to 29 to remain where they belong at the top of the Zach Johnson division.

The 2nd place oil jobbers rode the wings of Todd Kanne's 39 to a 39 to 33 win over the other beer in the Zach Johnson division Miller Lite. The Carroll Cycle Center barely got past Walsh Motors 37 to 35. Fear of what was coming next week may have played a roll for Cycles. Jay Drees the week 12 MVP for the Cycles beating Tiger Tom Simons 16 to 2. Joe Hinners and J.B. Greenwell were both beaten 12 to 6. The Captain Terry Ruchti tied Bill Badding. Some big decisions for Captain Terry Ruchti this week in setting the line up for Week 13. A wrong move could dash all hopes of a 2009 Carroll Country Club Supper Championship.

The running order in the Zach Johnson division is Your Bud Light team followed by Community Oil then Carroll Cycle Center, Walsh Motors and Prenger La-z-boys!

Week 12 action in the Tiger Woods division saw Ron Juergen's lawn boys take one to the head from the Sharp Funeral Home. Dr. Dave Nystrom leading the way for the morticians beating Bob Linde 14 to 4. The lawn boys lost oh so precious ground to the Stiffsticks with their 44 to 28 loss. Speaking of the Stiffsticks they needed a loss by the lawn boys as the sticks could only battled to a draw with Macke Motors. Uncle Grandpa Bruce Pettitt led the team soundly beating Captain Frank Comito to 4. Comito was still in a golf hangover after advancing on in the Cleveland Cup with a victory over Carroll Broadcasting's general manager Kim Hackett.

Make it two in a row for the soggy subs as they beat Carroll Eye Clinic 37 to 35. Captain Papa Joe Pick got down to business and led his team to victory! Steve "Cuda" Quandt tied Jefferson Iowa's Tristan Brown. Pat "Spanky" Vollstedt lost to Lidderdale Country Store's Brad Stork and Tom "Duffer" Duff lost to Carroll Glass' Andy Reiman.

    In other news worthy items...................

    • The fireman of Feld Fire Equipment handed Commercial Savings Bank another loss 41 to 31! John Horbach the week 12 MVP for the fire guys!

    • Congratulations to Carroll Country Club's head bar keeper Jason Scranton for closest to the pin on #8.

    • Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz and Tomato John Gradoville were awarded low gross in the Zach Johnson division.

That is a wrap for week 12 as your Bud Light team still remains in the #1 position in the Zach Johnson division. Your Captain returns next week to manage the show down - Your Bud Light team vs. Carroll Cycle Center.

Week 12 Preview from The Rocky Mountains!

Steve "Hans" Auen Interim captain for Week 12....Big Cleveland Cup wins for Keeley Sinnard and Jacque Masching!

This week 12 preview show comes to you from breath taking Breckenridge, Colorado where your Captain is enjoying the Dukes family vacation and also celebrating my in laws and report subscribers, Phil and Caryl Dukes’ 50th wedding anniversary!

Monday was a first for your publisher playing golf at the Copper Creek Golf Course in Copper Mountain, Colorado as several different weather conditions were endured!

As I teed off with former Bud Light teammate and his wife, John and Lisa Dukes of Ames, Iowa and a new high handicap friend named Jay it was sunny and around 71 degrees. Shortly after your publisher carved up the front nine on the highest elevated golf course in the U.S. with a smooth 45 it started to rain, followed by hail and more heavy rain. It then cleared off and the majestic views of a fresh snow on the Copper Mountains appeared.

Week 12 is really a make up of the rained out Week 5. Your 1st place Bud Light team will take on Scott Kanne's 12th place Broadband Bandits.
In your Captain's absence Steve "Hans" Auen takes the reins as interim Captain and has released his line up for Week 12. Joining your interim captain on the 11th tee will be Bud Two Troy Auen who is off the injured reserve list after a complete recovery from his throttle elbow aliment, 2009 MVP front runner Steve Sinnard and Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz. 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz will be on the bench tonight! Your Captain will be rafting down the Colorado River.

In other Zach Johnson division action second place Community Oil Company who are just 3 points behind your Bud Light team will face off against Miller Lite. Your Bud Light teams next week opponent, Carroll Cycle Center, take on 5th place Walsh Motors and 4th place La-z-boys play Byron's boys.
Over in the Tiger Woods division league leading Stiffsticks take on Macke Motors. One has to wonder if Flying Bob Raue will be in the line up for the Motors. Ron Juergen's lawn boys who are only one point behind the Stiffsticks are dying to play Cute Kyle's Sharp Funeral Home team. Captain Papa Joe's Subway team looked to win two weeks in a row against Carroll Eye Clinic.

    Other news worthy items………………………..

In Cleveland Match Play action on Monday big wins for Jacque Masching beating Cute Kyle Atkinson, Keeley Sinnard for beating Aaron Ahrenholtz in a close one. Frank Comito beat past Carroll Country Club Women's Champion Kim Hackett on hole 17.

Report subscriber Mike “Jewels” Eckerman was front and center in Monday’s Des Moines Register being credited with carrying Gene Elliott to the win at the Iowa Masters over the weekend! Way to go Jewels! Check out the story here!

A big report welcome to Scott Hucka who built the back 9 of the Carroll Country Club and former high school state champion Dave Blum.

That's a wrap for the Week 12 preview show from beautiful Colorado. Good luck to Your Bud Light team and thanks to Steve "Hans" Auen for being the interim Captain!

    Week 11 in reveiw!

In the words of your publisher!

Bud Light back on top………Thanks CSB…….Sinnard MVP and Cycles drop a piston!

In the words of this publisher’s hero…………..Jim Zabel……………….I Love It!…………I Love It!……………I Love It!

Some times in life things turn out just as planned and last night on the fairways and greens of the Carroll Country Club the master plan was executed perfectly.
This report would like to publicly thank the Commercial Savings Bank team of Ryan Milligan, Chris Knerl, Eric “Bart” Muhlbauer and Papa Joe’s eldest Aaron Pick for accepting the challenge last night, carrying it out perfectly and burying the Cycles 44 to 28. For their efforts the bank team received a free drink and low net team honors! CSB Captain Ryan Milligan recorded his best round ever and this reporter feels it came a great time! This is the second week in a row that a Bud Light bounty has paid off!

The Cycles loss opened a door that four eighteen wheelers could have driven through and your Bud Light team was ready willing and able to capitalize on their misfortunate. Steve Sinnard led the team beating Mike Kelly 15 to 3 and Sinnard takes the lead in the Bud Light MVP standings. Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz blew out the birthday candles of Pat Malloy and looks to be on the mend after his accident! Your Captain Mike Franey took care of John Greteman 14 to 4. The only blemish on the card for your Bud Light team was a devastating loss by 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz. Schulz was beaten by Joel Harris 14 to 4. My mother told me if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Sorry Mother but Schulz’s performance was his worst in Supper league history and one that will result in a week 12 benching. Schulz did return to his original form in extra holes so I look for good things in the future from the 2008 MVP!
Your Bud Light team scores a big 44 to 28 victory over the Miller Lite team and have regained the perch at the top of the Zach Johnson division!
Next up for your Bud Light team is the Broadband Bandits. Interim captain Steve “Hans” Auen will step in to take the reigns in week 12 for a vacationing Captain Mike Franey.

Community Oil Company took care of Carroll County State Bank last night and are in second place 3 points behind your Bud Light team.

This publisher is elated to report that Subway was a winner last night 37 to 35 riding the broad shoulders of off season acquisition Pat “Spanky Vollstedt’s even par round 37. Steve “Cuda” Quandt also fired an even par 37 for the Subs. Tom “Duffer” Duff and Lonny Lehrkamp went down to defeat. Lehrkamp was subbing for Papa Joe Pick who was playing in the Bud Pearson Classic in Okoboji.

Over in the minors Captain Comito’s Stiffsticks reclaimed the lead with a win over the Carroll Eye Clinic. The sticks are one point clear of Ron Juergen’s lawn boys! Macke Motors suffered a loss at the hands of Hawkeye Commodity Brokers. Loren Boyce the MVP for the brokers handing Grandpa Uncle Bruce a 13 to 5 loss.

    Other news worthy items………………………..
    • Happy birthday wishes go out to Pat Malloy who turned 58 last night!
    • Congratulations to Randy Hockom for sharing the low gross honors with Craig Mertz with a one under 33 on the back nine.
    • Congrats to Eric Muhlbauer for closest to the pin on 17.
    • The first ever hole in Supper League history was won last night with a score of 10 on hole 14 as Broadband’s John Wagner tied Rick Kapserbauer. Wagner received a stroke on the hole resulted in the point!

    • A big report welcome to former Carroll resident Jim Selby.

Save the date…………..Tuesday July 21st #1 Bud Light vs. Carroll Cycle Center!

That’s a wrap for week 11! Last night’s rain fall is seen as tears of joy from above! That’s right YOUR Bud Light team right back to where they belong at the top of the Zach Johnson division. Make it a great week!

    Week 11 preview!

In the words of your publisher!

Battle of the beers…..Cycles in the lead……..another one on the injured reserve list!

As week 11 starts your Bud Light team is just 7 points behind the exhaust pipes of the Carroll Cycle Center. I hope each and every one of you had a Happy 4th of July holiday celebrating the birthday of our fine country! Your Captain is fresh off a fishing trip to Mule Lake Minnesota and attended the turtle races in Longville, Minnesota which is the Turtle racing capital of the world!

This report received front page billing in last Wednesday’s edition of the Carroll Daily Times Herald newspaper. I would like to thank Doug Burns for taking the time to sit down with your publisher to discuss the platform that is used to cast a little humor on the world of Carroll Country Club Supper league golf!

A big week for the Carroll Cycle Center has resulted in the Cycles vaulting to the top of the Zach Johnson division. This week the Cycles will take on Commercial Savings Bank. The bankers have struggled of late but do pose a threat to the leaders. This report is placing a bounty on the Cycles by offering the bank team a free drink for a victory over the front runners. This report will monitor the play of Joe Hinners as he was heard revving his motorcycle into the Carroll Country Club last night after a 4th of July trip to Eastern Iowa. Is Captain Terry Ruchti going to gamble on the condition of Hinners and place him in the week 11 line up? Details will follow!

Your second place Bud Light team takes on the Miller Lite team who currently resides in a tie for 7th place. The less filling beer will be without Fred Dolezal who will return to the area on Wednesday. After a big win by the Class of 69 last week one has to believe that Joel Harris will have to do some fancy begging to climb back into the line up!

Making the march to the 10th tee for your Bud Light team in week 11 will be 2008 Bud Light MVP and self proclaimed world’s best putter Mike Schulz, 2008 MVP runner up Steve Sinnard, Captain Mike Franey and Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz. Mertz has received a release from the doctor and returns to the line up after spending seven days on the injured reserve list for an accident while wrestling with fellow report subscriber Kristy “Kwee” McDermott. Your Captain officially places team sponsor Bud Two Troy Auen on the seven day injured reserve list for what doctors are saying is “Throttle elbow.” Bud Three Steve “Hans” Auen has carried the team so far this year and has earned the week 11 night off. Auen will return next week as interim Captain as Captain Mike Franey will be on a family vacation in Colorado.

    Other news worthy items………………………..

    · Bud One Jim Auen was spotted at the learning center on Monday night. The La-z-boys will take on the Broadband Bandits.

    · On Thursday afternoon reporters covered a match at the Carroll Country Club which pitted Mike “Jewels” Eckerman and Carroll Cycle Center’s J. B. Greenwell against Wade and Kirby Pettitt. Jewels and the good doctor were allowed to play from the senior tees and started out strong against the former State Champions. As I said started out strong but the Eckerman/Greenwell pairing started to struggle, folded under the pressure and were soundly beaten by the two members of the Pettitt dynasty. After the match on the tarmac in front of the Carroll Country Club Pro Shop, Jewels was over heard negotiating to play from the women’s tees in their rematch.

    · Papa Joe Pick’s Subway team is looking for a needed win. They tee it up against their sponsor Subway Mike’s Kerps squad. This ought to be good as Subway Mike can see first hand what is ailing his foot longs.

    · Congratulations to Tiger Woods for hosting and winning the AT & T National Tournament over this past 4th of July weekend. Did someone really say that he was washed up?

    · Captain Comito’s Stiffsticks take on the Carroll Eye Clinic. The sticks are currently tied with Ron Juergen's lawn boys. The lawn boys play Utilicom. Second place Macke Motors take on Hawkeye Commodity Brokers. 2008 Papa Joe Classic winner Digger Dave Nelson is nursing a sore shoulder after catching so many fish in Minnesota with your Captain over the weekend.

    · The report would like to welcome new subscribers former Carroll residents Denny and Mary Thomas of McKinney, Texas, Kevin Milligan of Wells Fargo in Des Moines, my fine hair cutter Mo, my mother Shirley Franey of Jefferson, my in laws Phil and Caryl Dukes of Marathon, Iowa and all of my brothers and sisters in laws.

    Week 10 in review

In the words of your publisher!

Cycles to the top………Hans Auen Week 10 MVP………CSB crushed and What’s wrong with Papa Joe?!

A night that saw the North winds carry the Carroll Cycle Center team into 1st place in the Zach Johnson division riding on the shoulders of D.A. Tony Bluml. Captain Terry Ruchti was back in action after a successful hip surgery and he still remains the MVP front runner for the cycles. The Cycles posted an impressive 55 to17 throttling of the Broadband Bandits.

The Cycles are just 7 points clear of your Bud Light team who took care of Bud One’s La-z-boys 40 to 32. Nephew Troy Auen topped Uncle Jim 10 to 8 on his way to shooting a 37. For Auen the even par round is far and away the best performance of the year for him and well needed as he is sitting in 5th place in the MVP standings. Your Bud Light team was led last night by 2009 MVP front runner Steve “Hans” Auen who took Rick Kasperbauer to the cleaners. Auen’s round was highlighted by a chip over a bunker that landed on a pillow resulting in a saving par. Your Captain edged out 2009 Carroll Country Club President Randy Hockom. Steve Sinnard ran into a scrappy Larry “Doc” Sporrer and was beaten 10 to 8. Over all a good night for YOUR Bud Light team jumping up a spot into 2nd and only 7 points behind the tail lights of the cycles.

A developing story that this publisher is monitoring is over in the Tiger Woods division as Juergens Lawn and Landscape is making a strong move to the top and currently are tied with Captain Comito’s Stiffsticks. The Sticks beat Juergens in Week 1 42 to 30. The lawn boys were led by Pete Juergens who shut out Cory Hempstead
18 to 0. Twenty time City Champion Mike “Jewels” Eckerman was a big winner last night wearing his Tiger Woods Sunday red shirt. The sticks last night took away the guns from Volquartsen Customs.

What is going on with Subway? The soggy subs slipped another slot to 10th in the Zach Johnson division. Steve “Cuda” Quandt and Tom “Duffer” Duff were winners for the subs. Captain Papa Joe Pick suffered terminal damage last night shooting a 45. That’s right eleven over par and just a cool 12 shots from low gross honors. Knowing the talent level of Papa Joe Pick several report subscribers are considering an intervention.

    Other news worthy items………………………..

    · Carroll Country Club head golf professional Nate Pettitt was tied last night by little brother Wade for low gross with a 1 under par 33 on the back nine. Wade was subbing for Macke Motors and along with Grandpa Uncle Bruce led the team for the Motors.
    · Subway Mike Gute led his Kerp’s squad over Cute Kyle’s morticians 43 to 29.
    · A big shout out to the 2009 Candy Classic winners Dirk Glynn, Pete Collison, Tom Burns and Papa Joe’s eldest Aaron Pick shooting a 15 under par over the weekend in the win.
    · Congratulations to subscriber Ron Juergens for his low net 61 in the Men’s 18 hole league. Juergens along with his playing partner Jerry Schroeder were also awarded low net team honors.
    · Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz still remains on the injured reserve list and is questionable for week 11.
    · The late Byron Nair is smiling from above this morning as his boy’s dismantled Commercial Savings Bank last night.
    · Feld Fire Equipment punctured a hole in the oil jobbers of Community Oil Company knocking them from 1st to 3rd.
    · The Miller Lite team last night featured 4 members of the Class of 69. The 69’ers all won their matches last evening and it is unclear if Fred Dolezal and Joel Harris will earn their starting spots back.

That’s a wrap for the Week 10. The Cycles take the lead in the Zach Johnson division with YOUR Bud Light team in hot pursuit.

On behalf of this report I would like to wish all of you a Happy 4th of July holiday! I hope that you take time to celebrate with family and friends. Your publisher is off to the lakes of Minnesota in search of the big! Happy 4th July to all!

    Week 10 line ups!

Bud Light takes dead aim at Bud One’s La-Z-boys……..Mertz on the DL and the Cycles cheer for joy.

In the words of your publisher.......
    http://www.visualtour.com/shownp.asp?T=1931860

It was around 6:00 on Saturday evening in the West rough of the signature hole of the Carroll Country Club when a pop silenced man kind for miles. That pop came from the back of Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz resulting in a position on the Bud Light disabled list. Mertz was wrestling with fellow report subscriber Kristy “Kwee” McDermott at the time of the accident. McDermott’s subscription to this report is on probation until further notice. Mertz’s condition is day to day.

Your Bud Light team will take on Carroll Supper league’s oldest team and former past champions…..The Prenger La-z-boys. The more mature team currently reside in 5th place just 11 points behind your Bud Light team. Making the call to the 5th tee this evening for YOUR Bud Light team will be 2009 MVP front runner BUD Three Steve “Hans” Auen, 2008 MVP contender Steve Sinnard, Bud Two Troy Auen, and YOUR Captain Mike Franey. 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz is in Minnesota relaxing with his family on a lake. Schulz will receive real time updates regarding tonight’s match.

All of the members of the Carroll Cycle Center team last week were seen doing the rain dance on the practice green prior to week 9 action. Fear is deadly and it was apparent the cycles were not ready to take on YOUR Bud Light team last week. The Cycles play the Broadband Bandits tonight and unofficial report sources say that Captain Terry Ruchti may be back in the line up tonight for the Cycles. The news is unofficial as all of my reporters are still covering the death of Michael Jackson.

The first place Community Oil Company tries to extinguish Feld Fire Equipment. This report is offering a free drink as a bounty to the Feld team for a victory over the oil jobbers. Second place Walsh Motors take on Carroll County State Bank.
Over in the minors Subway looks to improve on their 9th place position taking on Utilicom. Captain Comito’s Stiffsticks take on the guns of Volquartsen Custom and the sputtering Macke Motors team hopes to see clearly against the Carroll Eye Clinic.

    Bud One tops Bauer!

Congratulations to Bud One Jim Auen for advancing on in the Cleveland Golf Match Play Event last night at the Carroll Country Club with a last hole victory over LSU's fan club President Rick Bauer! This is a big victory for Auen who is recovering from a high ankle sprain and was putting off the match until the final deadline to rehab that ailing ankle. The two competitors were seen last night by your publisher enjoying an ice cold Bud after the match served up by Carroll Country Club's head bar keeper Jason Scranton. Bauer was still emotionally recovering from the thrill of the LSU's men's baseball team winning the college world series.
Auen's big victory comes on a day in which this country lost one of its Angels! Who will ever forget Farrah! Her battle with cancer was well documented and one we will never soon forget.
June 25th, 2009 will also be remembered as a day that the world said goodbye to the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson. Many people have their opinions of Jackson! His super stardom started at an early age, continued through the years where he was consider to be the greatest entertainer of all time and ended tarnished by his self inflicted bizarre acts of behavior.
Have a great weekend! Talk to on Tuesday with the week 10 line up show! Remember "This Bud's For You'!

The time has come………….it is going to be steamy one…….Your Bud Light team looks to rebound!

The showdown has finally come……Carroll Cycle Center vs. Your Bud Light team!
The Cycles are nervous as reliable sources tell me they may have raided Carroll Country Club youth pool to find subs for tonight’s match. Whatever works for the Cycles as they are the ones who have to sleep at night.

Captain Mike Franey will lead your 2008 Supper League Champions
into battled tonight. Going the Captain on the roster will be Steve Sinnard, 2008 Bud Light team MVP and self proclaimed world’s best putter Mike Schulz, and Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz. Bud Two Troy Auen and Bud Three Steve “Hans” Auen will ride the Week 9 pine.

Zach Johnson 1st place Community Oil will face off with Byron’s Boyz. Walsh Motors will play the Broadband Bandits. The La-z-boys will tee it up against Commercial Savings Bank. Over in the minors Subway will try to improve on their 9th place standing by going toe to toe with Kasperbauer Cleaners. Macke Motors will dodge bullets from Volquartsen Customs. Flying Bob Raue was seen having a lesson on Sunday from wife Judy!

    Other news worthy items………………………..

    · Congratulations to all the staff of the Carroll Country Club for their great performance yesterday hosting the St. Anthony Regional Hospital. They handled a water break and being wiped out of ice just to name a few set backs and still did a great job!

    · New subscriber welcome to Stacy’s Ace Hardware owner Stacy Boyer and husband Corey.

It’s time tonight at the Carroll Country Club 5:30 in the evening!
#3 Bud Light vs. #4 Carroll Cycle Center

That’s a wrap for the Week 9 line up show. Stay cool and stay hydrated with an ice cold beverage from the sponsor of YOUR Bud Light team……….Auen Distributing Company of Carroll.

    Week 8 wrap up!

In the words of your publisher:
    http://www.visualtour.com/shownp.asp?T=1920248

Your Bud Light Team’s born on date is expired…….Junk Yard Dog aces #17, Tomato John Gradoville aces #8 and NO Bud Light Week 8 MVP!

On a night that all of the stars were lining up for a big Bud Light victory the winds of change came over the Carroll Country Club along with a film of oil. That’s right the oil jobbers from Community Oil Company stood toe to toe with your Bud Light team showed no respect for the defending champions solidly beat your Bud Light team 40 to 32. Laurens Iowa’s best pizza maker Todd Kanne played well beating your Captain 10 to 8, Dick Mulhbauer topped 2009 MVP contender Steve “Hans” Auen 10 to 8. Head Oiler Chico Kanne tied 2008 Bud Light MVP Mike Schulz in your Bud Light team’s only glimmer of greatness. Mike Nelson beat Bud Light team sponsor Troy Auen 11 to 7. With all of that your Bud Light team goes from 1st to 3rd 7 points behind the fine folks from Community Oil Company. Walsh Motors topped Commercial Savings Bank 40 to 32 and leap frogged your Bud Light team moving the Motors into 2nd!

The Bud Light MVP race is now all tied up with Steve “Hans” Auen and Steve Sinnard knotted up averaging 10.20 points each week. No MVP award this week for your Bud Light team and the Week 9 line ups will be released at a later date!

The Carroll Cycle Center blew a tire last night losing to Byron’s Boyz 41 to 31. The Cycles are 8 points behind your Bud Light team in 4th place. Week 8 MVP for the Cycles is Tony Bluml. Terry Ruchti remains the MVP front runner with a 1 point lead over Tony Bluml.

Over in the Tiger Woods division Captain Frank Comito’s Stiffsticks continue their winning ways taking care Utilicom 42 to 30. The Sticks are 11 points ahead of a hot Juergen’s Lawn and Landscape team who thumped Volquartsen Customs 47 to 25. It has always been this publisher’s opinion that it is not a good thing to make the customs mad as they play with guns.

Macke Motors lost a close one to the Nate Pettitt’s Carroll Country Club team. On the golf course it really does not matter if you have won a state championship or you are a golf professional because the experience of being around the block a time or two makes all the difference. You guessed it the old veteran Grandpa Uncle Bruce knocked the legs out from under nephew Nate last night beating him 11 to 7. Randy Bierl and Joel Flug suffered loses. Flying Bob Raue was a winner as well. Flying Bob is still in the clouds from his big upset win over Papa Joe Pick over the weekend on the fairways and greens of Brooks National Golf Course.

    Other news worthy items………………………..

    · Welcome to new subscribers John Feld from Feld Fire Equipment, Carroll Glass’ Andy Reiman and Tom Burns from the Daily Times Herald.
    · Congrats go out to the Carroll Country Club’s head bar keeper Jason Scranton who had his lowest round ever last night with a 38 on the back nine and throttling Macke Motor’s Randy Bierl 13 to 5.
    · Congratulations goes out to Antivirus Adam Schweers for beating Jodi Kanne in a close match in the Cleveland Golf Match Play event going on now at the club.
    · The great shooting award goes out to Wade Pettitt for his 7 under 30 on the front nine of the Carroll Country Club last night
    · A formal investigation has been launched with the Carroll Country Club Handicap Chairman against La-z-boys Louie Prenger by a member of the Miller Lite team. Bud One Jim Auen who is recovering from his high ankle sprain may have come back to action too soon as he was beaten badly by Pat Malloy. Auen was seen using all of the ice from the beer cart to take care of that swelling ankle.
    · The June 30th Supper League trade deadline is fast approaching so any teams have some dead weight just kick ‘em to the crib or send them over to the Soggy Subs. The Subs last night lost to the Sharp Funeral Home. Pat “Spanky Vollstedt and Steve “Cuda” Quandt were winners, Captain Papa Joe Pick tied and Hy-Vee Produce Manager Tom “Duffer” Duff was gutted by Rick Bauer 14 to 4. No smiles in the Hy-Vee’s produce isles today
    · Hawkeye Commodity Brokers are making a move in the Tiger Woods division moving into 4th place. The 2008 Papa Joe Okoboji Classic Champion Digger Dave Nelson led the way for the Brokers!

It’s the time! Next Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Carroll Country Club 5:30 in the evening!
#3 Bud Light vs. #4 Carroll Cycle Center

That is a wrap for week 8! A little stumble for your Bud Light team last night although half the season remains. All of the staff at Bud Light world headquarters would like to thank Mac’s Corner CafĂ© for the coffee and rolls this morning. However the girls are worried that if your Bud Light team goes on a losing streak that their figures are going to be affected by the grief buffet provided Mac’s Corner Cafe.
