Mid Iowa Team wins 2020 Carroll Country Club Supper League......Ultra adds Kirsch for 2021.....Glynn named to Papa Joe Classic board!

It was a beautiful night to close out the 2020 Carroll Country Club Supper League! The Mid Iowa Team swept Carroll Glass to win their second championship. Aaron Ahrendsen beat the Head Glass cutter Andy Reiman, Junkyard Dog Cuda Quandt beat John Deere Benton Snyder, Produce Mouthpiece Tom Duff beat Lidderdale Country Store's Head Chef Brad Stork and Wade Adams beat Jon Heim.

"It really has been a magical year for Mid Iowa as the team captain Papa Joe Pick had some health issues that sidelined him from play for most of the season. With all of the challenges the team came together and made it happen." said team owner Mike Franey.

In a post-round interview Andy Reiman layed it on the line "Experience wins Championships." The plate glasses simply ran into a buzz saw on the first night of September. Pre-round distractions may have contributed to the results as Teflon Jon pelted a car on the road going to Willey. After conversations with the owner of the vehicle and finding a few parts everyone walked away satisfied.

Long time subscriber, former top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz chipped the Michelob Ultra team to a 3rd place finish. Team Ford and Ultra were tied after nine holes so a chip off from SE of nine green was arranged where Mertz was the closest to the pin. Bud Three Hans Auen beat Bill " The Wreck" Beck, Mouthpiece Mike Franey lost to high flying Shuffleboard Matt Fleshner, Mertz beat 2020 Carroll Country Club Champion Justin Yetmar and Tony Schweers beat Security Mike Schulz. "It was a good year for the Ultra team despite the COVID-19 keeping Bud Two Troy Auen out of action and limiting our roster to only four." said team manager Mike Franey.

From the world headquarters of your Michelob Ultra team it was announced this morning that Steve "Bud Three" Auen was awarded the 2020 Ultra team MVP!

Reliable sources have confirmed to this report that Busch Light drinking Curt "CK" Kirsch has been added to the Ultra roster for 2021.

Papa Joe Classic Chairman of the Board Joe Pick announced this morning that Dirk Glynn has been added to the board. Glynn joins Pick, Fairway Financial Frank Comito and Mouthpiece Mike Franey. The annual golf tournament is played on the fairways and greens of Brooks National Golf Course and supports cancer efforts in hope of finding a cure.

Prime Rib capped off the Supper League season!

This report would like to thank all of the CCC staff for the work this golf season. Fall League starts next week!

Respectfully submitted,

Mike

The tournament named after Bill Franey who passed away in May of 2006 attracted 51 players. The tournament was formerly known as the Al Hoy Memorial where Bill Franey served as tournament director for 25 years. In 2006 the board of directors of the golf course renamed the tournament the Bill Franey Open. Proceeds from the tournament support a scholarship given annually to a student training to be an electric lineman at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. Franey was a lineman for 31 years and served as line superintendent for another 10 years for Midland Power/Greene County REC in Jefferson.

Covid-19 kept Mom away this year but she did a great job of watching Annie!

Shirley, Lynda and Mike Franey are very grateful for all of the support of this tournament.

Wilke on Fire…..Ultra and Team Ford cruise….Busch Light Week on the Way.....Tassell holds on to win Muny Club Championship!

Busch Light Week Coming Up!

Supper League’s most popular team Ultra blinded the eyes of Carroll Eye Care Associates 7 to 3 to move into second place with three weeks to go. Mike Security Schulz beat Dr. Cavity Chris Bogue. Left-handed Nate Mertz finally pulled off a league win by beating Dr. Parrish. Paul Tigges, who beat America’s team last week redeemed himself this week by picking up a win over Jon Munson. Mouthpiece Mike Franey and Cody Forch battled to a tie. Long time subscriber, former top local amateur, high successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz searched and found a last minute substitute.  He has given up his attempt to go to the learning center and has ordered new clubs instead. Bud Three Steve “Hans” Auen was seen on a Cobalt on East Lake Okoboji with a beer in this hand.

League leading Team Ford pounced on the Mid Iowa Team. No winners for Mid Iowa. Only a tie out of Produce Tom Duff against No Shuffleboard Matt Fleshner. City Champ Ryan Feauto was low gross in a loss to Josh Sporrer who was complaining about back pain at age 40. It only gets worst Josh! Justin Yetmar beat the 3rd place finisher from the Muny Club Championship Steve “Cuda” Quandt.

Carroll Glass is tied with Mid Iowa for third after a 7 to 3 beat down of OH BOBBY. Benton Snyder, head glass cutter Andy Reiman and Jon Heim all winners for the glasses. Leon Muhlbauer the only winner for OH BOBBY!

Sharp Funeral rebounded from a one-point performance last week to beat Bierl Carpet One 5 to 4. The caskets rode the low gross performance of Justin Smool to shut the lid on the carpets. Brad Hempstead and Jon Sturm winners for the carpets.

Champion Ford 2 and HD of Carroll battled to a 4 to 4 tie. Lidderdale’s Brad Stork and Denny Kasperbauer were winners for the Fords. Harley Wade Adams and Head Hog Terry Ruchti were the winners for the cycles.

Champion Ford 1 shut out Kasperbauer Cleaners 9 to 0. Wade Wilkie was the MVP with an even par 34 for a net 30! Head Ford Darrin Putney, Monument Man Loren Boyce and John Barratta were all winners for the Ford Motors. The stunning win moved the motors out of the Supper league cellar!

Supper League’s most mature team initially reported a shut out of Graddy’s Tomatoes. That shut out was nullified after a scoring error was uncovered in the Fairway Financial Frank Comito and Digger Dave Nelson match that resulted in a tie. The scoring error seems to have been made by Bud One Jim Auen. This reporter questions if the mature golfers should let others keep score.

America's team stumbles, the father in law goes down and Chad Kanne wins Papa Joe Classic!

Your Ultra team fell hard last night to Champion Ford #1. Bud Three Steve Auen the only winner for Supper League’s most favorite team beating Monument Man Loren Boyce. Long time subscriber, former top local amateur, high successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz tied John Barratta. Sources tell this report that Mertz is considering visiting the learning center and was inquiring to the Pro Shop for directions to the facility. One of Supper League’s winningest players Wade Wilkie beat Mouthpiece Mike Franey on the last hole. The young left-handed Mertz struggled against Paul Tigges. Overall a 5 to 3 after a correction was made this morning to the standings.

Team Ford strangled Sharp Funeral Home 9 to 1. Twenty-time city champion Mike “Jewels” Eckerman was heard spouting off on the tarmac in front of the Golf Shop last night before league started about his upcoming successful triumph over son in law Kyle “Karl” Christensen. The story that the 15-time Grinnell Jr Champion was telling did not make it to print as the 6’2” son in law beat the 5’7” highly decorated champion golfer! It truly was the talk of the clubhouse. Eckerman was unavailable for comment although he was visibly shaken as he peeled out from the parking lot of the Carroll Country Club. Christensen remained silent on the matter and let the results speak for themselves. Eckerman failed to turn a score card to the Golf Shop prior to leaving. Anonymous confidential sources on course have confirmed that it was not his best night.  Josh Sporrer and Matt “I will invite you over to play shuffleboard but never answer the door” Fleshner were also winners for the league leading car manufacturer.

Graddy’s smashed some tomatoes on the windshields of the shiny new motorcycles of Harley Davidson of Carroll. Two-time Papa Joe Champion Dave “Digger” Nelson was the only winner in the match against the head hog Terry Ruchti. Grote and Harley Adams, Tomato John and Chico's assistant oil jobber Todd Kanne and Dr. Decay and the head oil jobber himself Chico Kanne all tied. Great to see Kanne playing Supper League again!

Bierl Carpet One pulled the carpet out from Champion Ford #2 7 to 2. Brad Hempstead beat Brad Woodard Jon Sturm tied Three-time Papa Joe Champion Denny Kasperbauer and Clint Cummings fell. Cummings and Woodard report fatigue after playing with Shane Bakke and CK Curt Kirsch for two days at the Papa Joe Classic.

Your Mid Iowa Team dry cleaned Kasperbauer Cleaners 8 to 3. All winners for Mid Iowa except Junkyard Steve Cuda Quandt. Quandt beat up on Mouthpiece 1 and 2 over the weekend at the Muny! AA Ahrendsen, City Champion Ryan Feauto and Kelly Staup’s boyfriend were all winners.

Carroll Glass beat the most mature team Stiff Sticks 6 to 3. Dr. Heim’s husband Jon who won a flag prize last week at the Papa Joe Classic and Lidderdale Country Store’s head chef Brad Stork were winners for the broken glasses. No winners for the sticks. Fairway Financial Frank Comito did not play for the sticks.

Carroll Eye Care Associates beat OH BOBBY 5 to 3. Dr Bogue and Mr. Forch were winners for the eyes. Sean Canuso was the only winner for OH BOBBY.

Welcome to the golf season.........Junkyard Dog Winless.....New handicap system gets some eye rolls and skins game Sunday!

Mother Nature delayed the start of the 2020 Carroll Country Club Men's Supper League with rainy weather last week BUT we prevailed this week so the season is under way.
Westside State Savings Bank implemented cost saving measures over the off season and did not even field a team this year to defend their championship. Makes one think about the reasoning for this decision when the team was on top of the heap. Head bank teller Matt Lujano was unable for comment and has not returned the call to this report.

Runner Up last year was Mid Iowa Team. Carroll Eye Care Associates beat the runner ups 8 to 2. AA - Aaron Ahrendson was the only winner despite his new handicap of +3 on the front nine. His even par low was rewarded with low gross individual honors. Produce Tom Duff lost to Chris Bogue and a subbing Kevin Milligan was beaten by Austin Scott. Papa Joe Pick was a no show and was spotted later in the evening in the vicinity of the CCC. Sources tell this report that Junkyard Dog Cuda Quandt is winless at the CCC this year and has had to reach in his pockets to get some of that moldy old money out.
It will be ok Dog you will recover.

America’s team Michelob Ultra capitalized on off season training, meditation and yoga to crush an always strong Bierl Carpet One team 10 to 0. Long time subscriber, top local amateur, highly successful and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz led the charge despite a first hole double bogey. His even-par 34 scored low gross individual honors and he also was awarded closest to the pin on #10. Mouthpiece Mike Franey beat carpet Colin Bierl, the youngster Nate “I am 21” Mertz beat Brad Pick and Bud Three Steve “Hans” Auen beat Jon Sturm. Bud Two Troy Auen was in quarantine and Magic Mike Schulz was entertaining his Dad and brothers in the clubhouse. It was sure good to see long time member Norm Schulz at the CCC last night.

Team Ford which appears to be the defending champions Westside State Bank beat Champion Ford #1 7 to 2. Fleshner tied Wilkie, new Daddy Bill Beck, Justin Yetmar and Josh Sporrer. Wade Wilke was the only point getter for the Fords with his tie and long putt award on hole #1.

Supper League’s most mature team Stiff Sticks beat Kasperbauer Cleaners 8 to 2. Tony Schultes was low net individual on the front and Doc Sporrer was closest to the pin on #8.

Champion Ford #2 and Graddy’s Tomatoes had a pillow fight on the way to 4 to 4 draw. Tomato John Gradovile and Digger Dave Nelson were winners for the tomatoes. Dr. Svensson and Denny Kasperbauer won for the #2 Ford team.

Harley Davidson of Carroll did a burn out on OH BOBBY on their way to a 10 to 0 shut out. Head hog Terry Ruchti, Assistant Oil Jobber Todd Kanne, Car Wash Todd Pettitt and Wild Wade Adams were all winners for the cycles. Terry Ruchti was low net individual on the back and Todd Kanne nailed the longest putt on #18.

Sharp Funeral Home and Carroll Glass battled to a tie. Assistant Pro Justin Smool and Jon Heim were winners for the caskets. Head glass cutter Andy Reiman and Benton Snyder won for the glass company.

Here are the standings after week one!

Just saying..................

A friend to many......RIP Larry! John Deere Green!
