Welcome Kirby Scharmann, Happy 40th Birthday Brad Woodard, Congrats to Shay Sinnard and Bud Two is back!

Welcome to the golf season! After Mother Nature forced the postponement of week 1 of the Men’s Supper League it was time to head to the tee this week. First, this report would like to welcome Kirby Scharmann to the Carroll Country Club!
Your defending champions The Mid Iowa Team kicked off the 2021 season with a new team member and a win over HD of Carroll. Car Wash Todd Pettitt started his Mid Iowa career with a win over Jerry Janson. Junkyard Dog Cuda Quandt battled to a tie with the head hog Terry Ruchti. One of the hardest working golfers at the club Wade Adams tied AA Aaron Ahrendsen and Joe Pawlosky lost to Kyle Karl Christensen. A 6-2 win for the defending champs gets them off to a strong start. Farmer Papa Joe Pick was missing in action and maybe he was in the field as he is a hard-working American farmer.

American’s team Michelob Ultra drew the most consistent opponent for week one……PAR! Ultra welcomed back Bud Two Troy Auen to the team after a year-long COVID-19 vacation. Bud Two played well and tied par. It took a one-under-par 36 for the long-time subscriber, former top local amateur, highly successful, and more veteran golfer Craig Mertz to win his match. Michelob Ultra 2020 player of the year Steve “Hans” Auen was a bit rusty in his first league match of 2021. Auen lost to par by a lot and maybe looking at a benching for week two! Mouthpiece Mike Franey sent par packing for a win! Magic Mike Schulz and new Ultra member CK Curt Kirsch were on the bench for week one. 5 points for week 1 for the Supper league’s most popular team.

After the round clubhouse chatter was whispering about an error in scoring for the Bierl Carpet Floor and Home and The Full Swing Golf match. The official sheet obtained by this report, it shows a 9-2 win for the carpets. This report will leave it there and will investigate for next week's report. Brad Hempstead led the team with a two-under 35 on his way to collecting front nine low gross and low net honors. Brad Pick nailed the longest putt. The flooring store is at the top of the league and we will soon learn by how many.

Champion Chrysler smashed the tomatoes of Graddy’s 7 to 1. John Baratta led the cars to victory with a win on Dr. Decay Nick Fangman. Denny Kasperbauer beat Chico’s right-hand man Todd Kanne. Birthday boy Brad Woodard beat new member Chris Toft. Tomato John scored the only point for the tomatoes by tying Clint Cummings.
Happy 40th Birthday Brad!

Sharp Funeral Home walloped Anytime Fitness 7 to 2. Tony Pietig, new member Pat Greteman, and techie Nic Volquartsen beat Ryan Filloon, Austin Scott and BV Brandon Vonnahme. Adam Pick(wait a minute shouldn’t you be farming?) tied the head casket, Kyle Atkinson. Brandon Vonnahme knocked it close on 17 for the out of shapers.

Champion Ford and Kasperbauer Cleaners pillow fought it to a 4-4 tie. Monument Man Loren Boyce and 34-year Carroll clothier Wade Wilkie won for the Fords. Wilkie also scored a bonus point for his closest to the pin on #8. Westside State Savings Bank’s head teller Matt Lujano and Giddy up Wyatt Haukap were winners for the cleaners.

Super League’s most mature team Stiff Sticks traded points with Team Ford. Matt Fleshner led the way for the car company with a two-under 32. His low round captured both low net and gross on the back nine and a win over Fairway Frank Comito. New member Jay Weisenborn beat Bud One Jim Auen and nailed the longest putt on 18. Tony Schultes and Trusty Mike Nelson won for the sticks beating Bill Beck and Justin Yetmar.

Carroll Glass rebounded from a 2020 loss in the championship match with a win over OH BOBBY 5-3. Head glass cutter Andy Reiman and Keith Pottebaum beat Easy Ed Cutler and Taxi Tony Feldman. Chris Giggie Giguere beat Lidderdale Country Store’s head chef Brad Stork. Brian Widdel and Jon Heim tied their match.

Here are the standings after week 1!

Congratulations to Shay Sinnard on winning the long jump at the Drake Relays! Way to go Shay!

Lots of great things going on at the Carroll Country Club so head-on out east of town and enjoy the fun.

Respectfully submitted,

Men's league championship captain and owner! As always ON IOWA and GO HAWKS!
